From Scuttlebutt
VENDEE GLOBE: THREE DAYS TO GO
Unlike the Volvo Ocean Race, the Vendee Globe route will take the 30 entrants
and their Open 60s through the unforgiving Southern Ocean. However, the weather
forecast for the November 9th start in Les Sables dOlonne, France is looking
like the first test may come out of the blocks:

Volvo Ocean Race - From Scuttlebutt
A REALLY LONG TUNING SESSION
(Oct. 15, 2008; Day 5) - Kimo Worthington, General Manager for the PUMA team, was wondering how their Volvo Ocean Race entry would match up with the others in light air. "Our training boat, the Juan K designed Avante (ex ABN Amro Two in 05/06 race), seemed really good in lighter winds, and the team on PUMA had to work hard to match her in those conditions." It must have been a relief then on Monday, for after a long day of light air running, PUMA appeared to have some legs. However, there was still much to learn, but after PUMA caught up with Torben Grael's Ericsson 4, the two teams have been inseparable on Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in a valuable offwind tuning session. "We couldn't have planned this any better," said Worthington.

Great Deals in the Seychelles
Thus the hunt began for the buried treasure of the most infamous of pirates to sail the Indian Ocean, Frenchman Olivier le Vasseur, know as 'La Buze' (the buzzard).
In the 1720's he joined forces with another pirate, Englishman John Taylor, to terrorize shipping throughout the Indian Ocean. In 1730 Le Vasseur was captured by the French and, on the 7th July of that year, hanged on Isle de France (now Mauritius). Many still believe his priceless booty remains hidden on one of the small islands of Seychelles, long used as pirate bases. Modern day treasure-seekers come to Seychelles for very different reasons: the lure of golden beaches and the elusive ideal of a tropical paradise.

The Worlds Largest Sailing Sloop
Tuesday, Oct. 21st, 2003
Mirabella V is a myriad of impressive statistics that cannot be ignored, she is probably the largest composite construction in the world at 75.22 metres long overall and her 90-metre mast is the largest Carbon construction in the World. Other vital stats include the fact that she has a wider beam then a Type-42 Destroyer measuring in at 14.80m (48.5 ft) wide. She cannot fit in the Panama Canal, nor can she get under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, as the mast would be standing 40ft above the road! Her volume she could probably fit 57 to 58 40ft ISO containers inside her hull.

Flukey winds but breathtaking finish at the Giraglia Rolex Cup
Wednesday, Jun. 25th, 2003
The third day of the Giraglia Rolex Cup was dominated by the smallest boats

boats heading hard for the right hand side of the course eventually benefit
from their choice. A shorter 15-mile one-lap windward-leeward style course
was set today taking the fleet out to the same weather mark as had been used
on the two previous days and back to the finish right in front of the port
of St Tropez.

with the leading Maxis taking more than two hours to sail the 17-mile
course. The smaller classes of the 120 boat fleet spending closer to five
hours on the course.
