BCR AT LE MANS

A highly satisfactory result was achieved by the BCR Yachts sponsored TVR Grantura at the 24 hours Le Mans Classic event held in July for sports racing cars constructed between 1923 and 1978.
This was the third time that the car has competed on this world famous course - twice at the 24 hour Classic in 2002 and 2004 and once at the Legends race in 2003.

In this year's event the BCR Yachts car finished a creditable 34th. out of 69 starters that included Ferraris, Ford GT40s, AC Cobras and the like with far more powerful engines than the TVR. The car also finished 3rd. in the GTP6 class behind two Porsche 904/6s. No less than 366 cars were entered for this world class event.

Phil Hooper and Malcolm Wood endured a troubled practice session with fuel starvation maladies but eventually persevered to solve the problem in the final stages of the event and to finish strongly. The car was eventually lapping the 13.6km circuit 25 seconds a lap faster than at the 2002 race.

BCR Yachts, one of the pioneers of classic racing sponsorship, also chalked up a first at any motor racing event by displaying a 5.5 metre classic wooden sports boat constructed by Comitti on the shores of Lake Como in Italy. This superb tender was shown in both semi-built and fully constructed form and attracted a huge interest from those who appreciate craftsmanship at its very best.
