Naxos
Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades, home to its tallest mountain, the pyramidal Mount Zeus (1,010 m). Naxos is a fertile island, and is one of the most popular islands for tourists, but is relatively quiet, quaint, and charming.

Naxos has a rich variety of island -meadows alternate with long beaches, gorges full of oleanders. and rugged mountains which contain a black emery. The main port of Naxos has a Venetian fort and a long boardwalk of restaurants and cafes. An ancient causeway to the north of the port, connects the town to the islet of Palatia on which sits a monumental gateway to a Temple of Apollo. the Temple was abandoned, never to be completed, what does remain has become one of the symbols of Naxos, and the island has ben incorporated into the harbour wall. With it's mix of newly redesigned waterfront, bustling town centre, and a Kastro that still house mansions that bear their original Venetian coat of arms, Naxos town leaves you with the impression that you are on a Greek island not quite like any other.
Agio Prokopios is a long white sandy beach with warm, shallow turqoise water, and is worth a visit on a charter. There are a number of tavernas and it is located only thirty minutes from Naxos Port.
Agio Georgios is a popular beach which is also just a short hop from the port.

The entire west coastline is a paradise to the watersports enthusiast.

According to myth, this was the island where the Minoan princess Ariadne was abandoned by her lover Theseus when he was returning to Athens after killing the Minotaur at Knosos on the island of Crete Naxos is famous for the quality of its marble. Near to the marble quarry at Flerio, lie two sixth century BC. kouroi which are male statues, one which is 26 feet long, lies in a private garden, the other, 18 feet long, lies in a nearby field.
